Launch World First Cloud Development Environment for Windows® Applications
New service allows Android, iOS etc. app developers to quickly begin developing Windows apps

Tokyo – October 4, 2012 – GMO Internet and Microsoft Japan have partnered with the objective of growing the market for PC, tablet and mobile Windows applications, and today in an industry-first, GMO Internet launches Onamae.com Desktop Cloud for Windows® Apps, a cloud-based development environment on a virtual desktop for app developers.
Onamae.com Desktop Cloud for Windows Apps is a cloud-based development environment that allows developers to begin creating apps for Windows smartphones and other devices without the need for new software or PC environment and with minimal initial expense. Existing Windows app developers as well as app developers for other platforms including Android and iOS can easily create apps that take advantage of the new Windows 8 user interface and multi-touch capabilities. Further, as the development environment is in the cloud, it can be used from Mac and other non-Windows devices, and if the device is globally Internet-enabled the development environment can be accessed anytime, anywhere in the world. The partnership between Microsoft Japan and GMO Internet will also provide support to application developers to encourage broad use of the new development environment.
*Virtual Desktop: A remote desktop environment virtually built on GMO Internet data center servers that allows users to remotely connect to their Windows desktop from their home PC, smartphone or other external device.

The mobile device market is growing rapidly, quadrupling in size over the past two years, and is expected to grow approximately 14% by 2015 (Q2 2012 Japan Quarterly Mobile Device Tracker), and as a result the application market is expected to experience similarly high growth. Microsoft Japan is set to launch Windows 8 on October 26, 2012 driving further expansion of the Windows app market.
In response to the needs of the market, GMO Internet and Microsoft Japan have come together to release the world’s first cloud based development environment for Windows apps providing a low-cost, convenient Windows app development platform. GMO Internet and Microsoft aim to provide the new service to 10,000 developers in the first three years supporting the development of a large range of apps.

Features of Onamae.com Desktop Cloud for Windows Apps
App developers need to be able to develop and maintain apps for multiple devices and as result both the amount of work involved and development environment cost are a concern for many. Onamae.com Desktop Cloud for Windows Apps is a new package plan for Onamae.com Desktop Cloud, being released today by GMO Internet to resolve developers’ concerns.
*Onamae.com Desktop Cloud is a renewal of the Onamae.com Windows Desktop brand under the current partnership.

Visual Studio Professional 2012 on a virtual desktop
The virtual desktop allows Windows apps to be developed on any PC or device using the latest development environment, Visual Studio Professional 2012. Until now a license or package has been required to use Visual Studio, now Visual Studio is available on a virtual desktop. Accessible from anywhere in the world, developers can continue working on the road even when not carrying their own device.
Low Initial Outlay to Begin Developing Windows Apps
Not restricted to Windows users, Mac users can also access the development environment. Developers of apps for Android, OS and other platforms can get started creating Windows apps without the need to make an initial investment in a new development environment or PC. Users who don’t have a Windows 8 device can still experience the new OS and use the development environment at minimal cost.
