GMO Internet Launches Onamae.com Backorder Service for General Use .jp Domains

Tokyo – October 5, 2009 – GMO Internet ICANN (*1) accredited registrar, Onamae.com last Thursday launched Onamae.com Backorder Service for general use .jp domains. The new service helps customers secure expired domains the instant they become available.
(*1) ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) American non-profit organization responsible for the global management of Internet domain names and IP addresses. It also holds the authority to designate official domain registration companies.

Onamae.com Back Order Service
When registration of a general use .jp domain name reaches expiration and the registrant has not applied for renewal within approximately 30 days, the domain name becomes available for general registration. The backorder service offers users a greater chance of securing a domain name than regular registration by submitting a registration application as soon as the backordered domain becomes available.
Two Onamae.com Backorder Services are available.

1. Backorder
Backorder applications are accepted in the grace period (approx. 30 days) between the domain registration expiration (*2) and the time the domain name becomes available for general registration. Onamae.com attempts to register backordered domain names as soon general registration is opened. When a registration is successful and only one applicant has submitted a backorder that applicant will secure the domain. In cases where two or more applicants have submitted back orders the domain will proceed to auction.

2. Email Notification
This free service allows customers to seize the opportunity to secure a domain name as soon as it becomes available. Email notification is sent out when a registered .jp domain name registration has expired (*2) (on the last day of each month) and has entered the grace period (the period during which backorder applications are accepted).

(*2) Registration expiration: This refers to the last day of the month during which the domain registration expires.
(*3) A domain name becomes available for general registration on the first day of the second month following registration expiration.
