Japan Market Intelligence Launches New Service with CRESCO-ID-SYSTEMS Technology

Tokyo – September 17, 2009 – GMO Internet Group company and GMO Research, Inc. subsidiary, Japan Market Intelligence announces the launch today of a new consumer behavior analysis service that enables real time observation of consumer actions using CRESCO-ID-SYSTEMS’ RFID* system.
*RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) An automatic identification technology that can identify information embedded in a tag (RFID tag) without contact using electro-magnetic waves.

New Service: Background and Objectives
Marketing ROI (Return on Investment) analysis and consumer insight are said to have become essential areas of development for marketing professionals in recent years. Many companies are streamlining marketing costs and transitioning to more cost effective marketing activities. There is a desire to move away from activities that rely on intuition and experience but in reality there are few alternative options.
JMI already offers consultation services aimed at improving store management that use eye-tracking technology (tracking a person’s line of sight using infrared) to identify what the consumer is actually looking at in a store and whether this is linked to purchasing activity.
In addition, the new service being launched today makes it possible to acquire consumer behavior data with real time monitoring of products on display shelves in stores. Using this data we help our clients’ businesses to achieve efficient and effective marketing strategies.

New Service: RFID Smart Shelf – Consumer Behavior Analysis
The new service uses Cresco IDs RFID system to analyze consumer behavior. The system comprises an RFID tag attached to the targeted product that works in conjunction with a “smart shelf” containing an RFID antenna. This allows real time monitoring of products on shelves in stores. As a result our clients see why a customer picks up a product but does not make a purchase and analyze other consumer behaviors that can’t be understood through POS data, purchase data etc.

Service Features
(1) Quickly start collecting data
No interview screening the applicant, or vetting procedures are required so our clients can quickly begin collecting data.
(2) Natural Consumer Behavior Analysis
Because the data collection process is fully automated, it is possible to elicit natural customer behavior  data without incurring extra costs.
(3) Minimize outlay
CRESCO IDs slim design antenna can be attached to any shelf. Customers using this service are not required to purchase a smart shelf and this is a major cost saving.
(4) Behavioral Analysis Report produced by Sophisticated JMI Analysis Technology
We analyze data to provide clients with answers to questions including “What products are customers picking up, and how often?”, “What products are comparable?”, “How often does the customer go on to make an actual purchase?”
(5) Consultation based on Consumer Needs
Analysis at the consumer level of what factors encourage a desire to purchase or contribute to an actual purchase at the point of sale for a clear picture of consumer behavior. We offer advice on product selection, cross selling, effective in-store display, and appealing shelf arrangement.

Service Implementation Process
1. Provisional construction: Based on management interviews and best practices analysis
2. Working session: Establish a focus area and research framework
3. Collect activity data: Implement smart shelf and collect data
4. Quantify results
5. Formulate action plan
