New Xen VPS Service Offers 40GB Disk
VPS Service Launched in Conjunction with New Shared Firewall and Access Block Optional Services

Tokyo – July 2, 2007 – GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary @YMC Corporation today launches two high end VPS*1 hosting service plans with 40GB hard disk capacity and 512MB of memory. The new high performance plans are Managed 40 and Custom 40. At the same time we announce the launch of new optional services available with these plans, Shared Firewall Service and Access Block Service. 
*1 Virtual Private Server is a multi-operational virtual server that operates like a dedicated server environment. It offers the scalability of a dedicated server at the low price of a shared server.
 
Nowadays, more and more CMS and blog tools are being used in the construction and operation of websites. However disk capacity and performance limitations make it difficult to use these tools on a shared server.
VPS services offer the same degree of scalability as dedicated servers at lower prices and therefore the number of VPS service users is increasing.
@YMC has developed the Managed 40 and Custom 40 plan VPS services with Xen to meet the service needs of our customers. Managed 40 is a managed server service that lets the user leave server administration and operation to @YMC. Custom 40 is a custom server that makes it possible to build a custom server environment with root authentication. The new high end high performance VPS services offer specs that almost rival those of a dedicated server with 40GB capacity hard disks and 512 MB of memory.

Outline of Optional Services: Shared Firewall Service and Access Block Service
The more secure shared firewall service and the new access block service, until now only available on dedicated servers are now being offered as optional services with the @YMC Managed 40 and Custom 40 plans.
 
Shared Firewall Service
A protective barrier that shields data from unauthorized outside access. The service prevents access, falsification and damage to data and programs by only allowing necessary access and blocking unwanted access. At the same time it protects against damage to the server and phishing. 
Every server is protected from unauthorized access with iptablets*2 packet filtering, however the Shared Firewall Service deals with potential problems before they reach the server maintaining a more secure environment.
*2: iptables is a Linux packet filtering function that allows or denies access to internal and external packets (data) and makes possible NAT (address translation). Set the appropriate access and denial settings to use this service as a firewall. 

Access Block Service
A simple and easy to use function that restricts external access. This is a new optional service especially for VPS services. This service is a security function that protects data by only allowing access from specified IP addresses and blocking unwanted access.
