Press Release
GlobalSign K.K.

GlobalSign One of Only Three Companies Worldwide to Support Windows Vista Code Signing with Launch of ObjectSign

Tokyo – July 2, 2007 - - The GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary, GlobalSign today launches ObjectSign™, the GlobalSign brand certificates that support 64 bit Windows Vista Kernel Mode code signing. GMO Hosting & Security is part of the GMO Internet Group.

The Importance of Code Signing
In the past few years there has been a major shift in software delivery from package distribution to online distribution. Even when software is sold in package form, nowadays updates are usually made available online. For this reason it is essential that software users are able to confirm the authenticity of their distributor and be sure they have received an official release. Users must also beware of malicious and harmful software.
Software vendors need to address this threat and take responsibility for their software safely reaching the user whether online or offline. The most effective method of achieving this is by code signing (an electronic signature) the software.

ObjectSignTM
ObjectSign™ is a certificate for code signing (a digital signature) software. Windows Vista x64 requires a digital signature in order to maintain enterprise level security. Kernel Mode software will not execute in certain situations without a digital certificate. This ensures high level security and prevents programs being installed that cause direct damage to the operating system. GlobalSign is one of only three certificate authorities worldwide authorized to issue code signing certificates for 64 bit editions of Windows Vista. (July 2007)
We have also made it possible to use digital signatures with ActiveX Control to support Microsoft Authenticode. In addition we offer a time stamp service so that even after a signature certificate has expired, Authenticode signatures can still be authenticated.
GlobalSign provides a more secure environment for computer use and contributes to the promotion of secure infrastructure.
