Pepabo R&D Institute’s Papers Have Been Accepted by IEEE’S International Conference “COMPSAC 2019”: Presenting the results of the research and development

  • GMO Pepabo, Inc.

Tokyo, Japan – May 20, 2019 – GMO Pepabo’s (https://pepabo.com/en/ ) Pepabo R&D Institute (https://rand.pepabo.com/ ), which is a research and development organization working on the creation and the implementation of new Internet technologies, will present their papers at the following two meetings in the COMPSAC 2019, a major international conference in the field of computer software to be held by IEEE from Monday, July 15, 2019, to Friday, July 19, 2019 (U.S. time): “NCIW: Networks, Communications, Internet & Web Technologies (NCIW),” which is one of the main symposiums in the COMPSAC 2019; and “NETSAP 2019: The 9th IEEE International Workshop on Network Technologies for Security, Administration and Protection (NETSAP 2019).”

The topics of the papers are as follows:
(1) “A homeostatic system architecture rapidly adapting execution environment changes” accepted as a short paper by NCIW
(2) “A way to automatically generate whitelist using queries issued during web application tests” accepted by NETSAP 2019

Managed Cloud plan of GMO Pepabo’s rental server Lolipop! has already adopted a technology discussed in the paper on “A homeostatic system architecture rapidly adapting execution environment changes,” and offers highly stable services.
Pepabo R&D Institute will continue to work on research and development, focusing on the creation of new technologies.

Accepted papers

1. A homeostatic system architecture high-speed adapting execution environment changes

Maintaining the availability and load balancing on access congestion are dependent on each system configuration. In this paper, we propose a homeostatic system architecture rapidly adapting execution environment changes which reactively decides invocation, running periods, simultaneous running numbers and assigned resources of the containers in connection with the incoming HTTP requests. We can offer the right resources depending on the environment by using the above technology, so we can reduce the probability that we cannot manage requests due to lack of resources, or the probability of incurring a cost that is otherwise unnecessary due to excess resources.
Managed Cloud plan of GMO Pepabo’s rental server Lolipop, which used part of the technology discussed in the current paper, was launched in July 2017.

2. A way to automatically generate whitelist using queries issued during web application tests

In this paper, we propose “A way to automatically generate whitelist using queries issued during web application tests” to prevent the attack that steals confidential information from a database by exploiting the vulnerability.
Conventional automatic generation method generated the whitelist after releasing the application, so generating the list took a lot of time. However, the current method enables the detection of the attack immediately after releasing the application as it generates the whitelist at the stage of web application tests.

GMO Pepabo will enhance the security measures of the services by using these new technologies.

COMPSAC is a major international conference in the field of computer software held by IEEE Computer Society, a technical society set up within the IEEE, and is one of the international conferences with low full paper acceptance rate, which is 20% (https://ieeecompsac.computer.org/conference-archives/ ) as of 2017. COMPSAC 2019, the theme of which is “Data Driven Intelligence for a Smarter World,” will be held from Monday, July 15, 2019, to Friday, July 19, 2019, at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

NCIW (URL: https://ieeecompsac.computer.org/2019/nciw/ )

“NCIW: Networks, Communications, Internet & Web Technologies (NCIW),” which is one of the main symposiums in the COMPSAC 2019, presents and discusses the research and development related to network, telecommunication, Internet, and web technology.

NETSAP 2019 (URL: https://ieeecompsac.computer.org/2019/netsap/ )

“NETSAP 2019: The 9th IEEE International Workshop on Network Technologies for Security, Administration and Protection (NETSAP 2019),” which will be held together with COMPSAC 2019, presents and discusses the research and development related to the technology for security, management, and protection.

Pepabo R&D Institute (URL: https://rand.pepabo.com/ )

Pepabo R&D Institute, which is a research and development organization working on new technologies and is centered around researchers at the Fukuoka office, works towards realizing a smooth system* that widens the possibilities of the Internet, using GMO Pepabo’s expertise that the company has cultivated through developing and offering various services.

We carry out the acts from research and development, implementation, to evaluation, with core Internet technology and artificial intelligence (AI) as the main themes. We provide information about our research and development, which create technologies that allow us to differentiate with other businesses.

* Smooth system is a plan of a new system that applies a cell’s functions to sustain life to Internet services. It restructures the service automatically before the abnormality occurs through autonomous control of the service by using the AI (machine learning).
