GMO Registry Announces the Launch of Global Ecommerce Domain .shop

Priority registration available to trademark holders beginning July 1, 2016

Tokyo, Japan - May 24, 2016 – GMO Internet Group company, GMO Registry today announces the launch schedule for new generic Top Level Domain, .shop. Beginning July 1 2016, Sunrise phase registration will be open exclusively to trademark holders.  
.shop was acquired by GMO Registry for a record USD 41.5 million in an auction conducted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on January 28 this year. After contracting with ICANN in April, the TLD was today delegated into the root zone.

1) Sunrise
The .shop Sunrise period is a priority registration period that allows trademark holders to secure domain names that correspond to their trademarks before .shop becomes available to the general public. To take advantage of this priority registration period, your trademark must be registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse.
 
2) Early Access Program
The Early Access Program marks the opening of .shop to the general public, and is an advance registration program. Participants will have first pick to acquire relevant, meaningful and easy to remember .shop domain names.
 
3) General Availability
Registration for .shop will be opened to anyone on a first-come-first-served basis via participating registrars from September 26, 2016
