JWord Launches Search Service for Nintendo Wii®

Tokyo – February 21, 2008 – GMO Internet Group company, JWord the company that operates the Japanese Internet search tool of the same name, announces the launch of JWord Search Service (Wii Version) for the popular Nintendo game console, Wii. This service makes it possible for users who access the Internet through Wii to use the JWord service.

The JWord search plug-in has been installed on over 46 million computers. JWord has developed an array of services with the aim of making JWord available anytime and in any environment. The JWord Search Service (Wii Version) for Wii consoles marks the first time the service will be available beyond the personal computer. Now those that often don’t use a computer have easy access to JWord through Wii.
The JWord Search Service (Wii Version) does not display a split screen after a search is conducted, search results are presented in a simple format on a single screen. We have employed a 10 feet UI which ensures that the search screen interface will be easy to read at up to 10 feet (approx. 3m) from the television.

(also accessible by PC)

Search Results Screen
(1) The site attached to the keyword is displayed

(2) Search engine search results are displayed

There are two possible actions that occur when a search is conducted. If the search term is a JWord registered keyword (1), the user is taken to the website attached to the keyword. If the search term isn’t a JWord registered keyword (2) search portal site search results are displayed in a large, easy to read format. The service has been designed with Wii remote control operation in mind and when a user wants to move between search results pages they scroll not up and down, but right and left.
Many celebrity names, company names, product names etc. are registered with JWord, so when a user is watching television and sees something they want to know more about, JWord is a simple, fast and convenient way to directly access a site and find out.
JWord Search Service (Wii Version) plans to continue adding features that meet the unique needs of Wii Internet users.
