GlobalSign To Offer Code Signing Certificates for Java Platform
Tokyo – November 26 – GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary and digital certificate services company GlobalSign will begin issuing code signing certificates for the Sun Microsystems Java platform this Friday, November 30. GMO Hosting & Security is a GMO Internet Group company.
The Growth of Java Software
Java is the fastest growing software platform and is now employed as a software execution environment in many system platforms. The use of Java software not dependent on an OS is rapidly increasing, not only in personal computers but also in embedded devices.
The Importance of Code Signing
It is essential that software users are able to confirm the authenticity of their distributor and be sure they have received an official release. Users must also beware of malicious and harmful software.
Software vendors need to address this threat and take responsibility for their software safely reaching the user both online and offline. The most effective method of achieving this is by code signing (with an electronic signature) software.
Sun Microsystems trusts GlobalSign code signing certificates and recognizes the company is a reliable Certificate Authority for Java Runtime Environment.
About the Code Signing Certificate Service Name
In conjunction with the launch of the Java platform service we are changing the name of the services from ObjectSign(TM) to Code Signing Certificate. In order to make the services easily identifiable to our customers the existing Microsoft Authenticode* code signing certificate is being called MS Authenticode (MS version) and the new Java platform code signing certificate is being called Object Signing (Java version).
GlobalSign provides a more secure environment for computer use and contributes to the promotion of secure infrastructure.
*Microsoft Authenticode: Authenticode identifies the publisher of signed software and verifies that it hasn't been tampered with, before users download software to their PCs.
