GMO Internet Group companies, GMO Registry, Inc., and local Myanmar company, GMO-Z.com ACE Co., Ltd have been officially awarded the contract to provide back-end registry operational support for country-code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), .mm by the Posts and Telecommunications Department (PTD) of the government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

This month a signing ceremony took place between GMO-Z ACE and .mm registry, the Myanmar government Posts & Telecommunications Department.

GMO-Z ACE will be responsible for .mm registry operations, while GMO Registry will implement and operate the registry backend system.

The two companies aim to contribute to the growth of the .mm TLD and the Myanmar domain market through provision of the following registry system operation support services..

(1) To implement a secure, stable and highly-scalable registry system
(2) To develop registry policies in line with global standards
(3) To provide marketing support and expand internationally
(4) To increase efficiencies in operation
(5) To provide systems operation, product and marketing support and consultation services

Amid the current rapid expansion of the Internet in Myanmar, the government expects demand for domain names to increase, and with the goal of promoting the growth of .mm, PTD held a tender and evaluation process to select a registry backend operations provider.

GMO-Z ACE has been providing domain registration, SSL, enterprise cloud and hosting services in Myanmar since 2014, built on the expertise and experience of GMO Internet Group, a provider of comprehensive Internet services in Japan. GMO-Z Ace is partnering with registry services provider, GMO Registry to operate .mm.

The Myanmar government tender and evaluation process recognized GMO Internet Group’s proven track record in domain registration, systems development, operations and technology.

GMO Internet Group has an extensive history in the domain industry, comprising services including Onamae.com, the first ICANN accredited registrar in Asia, who is today among the largest registrars in the world having registered more than 20 million domain names and offering registration in more than 580 domain extensions (.com, .shop etc.). Additionally, GMO Registry provides registry backend operation and support services for over 40 TLDs including Indonesia ccTLD, .id.
