Onamae.com Accepting Pre-Order Landrush Registration for .cm Domain

July 17, 2009 – GMO Internet official ICANN*1 domain registrar, Onamae.com, Wednesday began accepting pre-order Landrush*2 registration for the .cm domain.
Dot cm is the country code top level domain for Cameroon. Its most outstanding feature is being just one letter/keystroke away from .com, one of the most recognizable domains on the internet.

Features of the .cm Domain
(1) Secure .com Typo Traffic
The .cm domain is expected to be used for securing traffic from .com typing errors, and protecting access to .com websites. In many instances potential website visitors will mistype a URL and not reach the site they intended. Registering your .com domain name as a .cm domain name protects natural traffic navigating directly to your site. Securing your domain name under the .cm domain eliminates the potential user confusion and misunderstanding that may occur if a third party acquires or operates the domain name, for this reason it is also attracting interest from a brand protection perspective.
(2) Campaign and Promotional Sites
In Japan, “.cm” has the additional benefit of representing the words commercial and campaign, and we anticipate businesses here will take advantage of the domain for promotional activities. Like the domain .tv now used for video sites, we expect to see .cm domain registrations for websites linked to commercials.

About the .cm Pre-Order Landrush Phase
The .cm pre-order Landrush phase beginning July 15 at Onamae.com, incorporates an auction format allowing for a fair application process. This phase precedes the first-come-first-served general availability phase and therefore applications submitted during this time for short 3-4 character words and other popular domain names stand a greater chance of securing registration. Domain registrations contracts offered during this period are 2-year registration, premium contracts.
