GMO Payment Gateway Partners with PayPal to Introduce SaaS Model PayPal Service to 20,000 Stores

Tokyo – December 28, 2009 – GMO Internet Group remote credit card payment processing company, GMO Payment Gateway today announces the launch today of PayPal Payment Processing service, a new payment method being added to the company’s SaaS delivered PG Multi Payment Service.
Approximately 20,000 merchants using GMO-PG payment processing services will now be able to accept payment by PayPal, a name recognized and trusted worldwide.

Background
PayPal is the global leader in online payment processing systems with over 200 million registered accounts and 78 million active users worldwide. Currently, the system handles 24 different currencies and is used in 190 countries. In 2008 PayPal transactions totalled 6 billion dollars and accounted for approximately 9% of all ecommerce sales(*).
Using PayPal is an easy way to sell products and services internationally, it is also an ideal payment method for small ticket items. PayPal opens up the global marketplace to online shoppers. The service makes it possible to make credit card purchases online providing only an email address - there is no need to enter credit card information.
Today, GMO-PG announces the addition of the PayPal Payment Processing Service to the PG Multi-Payment Service, a service that already offers a number of payment methods including credit card, payment at a convenience store, electronic money and Pay-easy.
PG Multi Payment Service is a SaaS service offering a payment processing framework that allows online vendors to select the payment methods they require and manage their account from an online administration screen. Now online vendors in Japan can implement and use the PayPal Payment Processing service just as easily as they can other domestic-market payment methods.
At the same time, PayPal gains immediate access to the GMO-PG merchant base of over 20,000 Japanese vendors by partnering with GMO-PG.
The PayPal Payment Processing Service is the second stage of the GMO-PG Global Alliance initiative that began with the launch of Alipay Kokusai Keissai Service (an international payment processing service) earlier this year.

・ Providers of services, content, social applications etc. who need to be able to accept small charges.
